Government’s NHI lead, Dr Nicholas Crisp, has said that the NHI fund will provide the standard of healthcare that the South African government can afford.
"NHI will purchase what the economy is able to pay for," he said, speaking at a National Press Club event on 29 February.
Crisp, who is the deputy director-general of the Department of Health, identified healthcare expenditure that he argued is "low-hanging fruit" to re-allocate to fund the National Health Insurance (NHI).
