Waking up to impalas, elephant sightings from the balcony: Our Pilanesberg family holiday adventure

My wife has recently joined the TikTok wave and has taken over the household with videos and pictures everywhere we go. She claims to be an expert, yet she is only a beginner. Admittedly, some of her videos are impressive. We spent Christmas and New Year in Johannesburg with friends and family and decided to take a break from the big city. We started 2024 with a mini holiday adventure at Kwa Maritane Bush Lodge in Pilanesberg.

The drive to our destination was smooth sailing, passing through the beautiful scenery of the North West. We caught our first sight of an elephant just before entering the lodge gates. We are used to travelling to places and seeing cattle along the road behind a fence. It was an exciting experience for our 3-year-old daughter to witness her first sighting of an elephant. 

This made the trip much more exciting, and we could not wait for what was in store for us at the lodge. We were greeted by the friendliest and most helpful staff and some welcome drinks on arrival. There was also an array of different languages and cultures and, weirdly enough, a lot of children running around.
