The Welkom Publicity Association (WPA) has announced a dramatic cut to the cost for single stall holders at its monthly flea market.

According to Brian Emmenis, chairman of Welkom Publicity Association, they had to bite the bullet during the Covid-19 lockdown period.

“We also had two very bad storms which created havoc, and virtually washed the flea markets out,” says Emmenis. At a recent board meeting it was decided to change the tariff structure for stall owners, and to embark on an operation to bring back hundreds of exhibitors to the market.

“The reduction in the fuel price also brings some form of relief. I am hoping that it can only get better. So many people rely on this market as their only source of income. We also hope to meet with the mayor and his team to discuss several projects to try and enhance some form of way to attract tourist to Welkom.

“Saturday’s (06/08) Rotor, Motor and Bike Show, that was held at Riebeeckstad High School, just showed how much money comes into the city when there is a great event. The WPA team continually assist with events to promote and enhance Welkom to the outside world,” says Emmenis.

The next flea market is on Saturday (13/08) in North Park, Welkom.
