The continued electoral support of Cosatu for the ANC is misplaced, especially when the current highest-ever cost of living and inflation crises have eroded its members standard of living further, bordering on the conscious betrayal of their interests and needs, argues Ebrahim Harvey. 

The birth of the Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) in December 1985 was arguably the most critical development in the entire history of the trade union movement of South Africa.

Cosatu was arguably also the most important and strongest organisation of South African civil society, in the forefront of the struggles against the apartheid regime, and globally recognised as the spearhead of the South African trade union movement.
