A land claim on a Limpopo heritage site that houses the Motumo Trading Post is one of the reasons the project has been left to fall into ruins, because no private business partner can take the risk of investing their money in it.

Government has spent about R22 million since 2003 to give a facelift to the Motumo Trading Post, but there is nothing to show for the expenditure. The buildings have been ruined by vandals and arsonists, and there are no water or electricity connections.
