Siyahleba was never known for her mathematical prowess, but her English marks were not so bad. Even with that, Siya has been left scratching her head trying to make sense of remarks by Limpopo Premier Stan Mathabatha.

Responding to a question at an M&G event he said:

Unemployment is increasing, but increasing at a decreasing rate.

When the audience laughed, an irate Mathabatha hit back, saying he could not be held responsible for the ignorance of those laughing at him. He boasted about being a teacher.

Please, Sir, how can we decrease our stupidity and increase our ability to comprehend your complexity?

Will R20 even buy a piece of bubblegum or perhaps a postage stamp? Is it enough to alleviate the hardship facing so many South Africans? Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana proudly announced this week that the social relief of distress grant had been raised by R20 to a “whopping” R370. This decision left many South Africans baffled and raising doubts about the government’s resolve to combat poverty. “Wow, R20, that’s almost enough to buy half a loaf of bread!” said one user on X. One person asked: “Is Cyril Ramatress buying votes?”

The much-heralded Multi-Party Charter has not got the head start they wanted towards the elections.

The alliance, spearheaded by the DA, hoping to catapult themselves to the Union Buildings, was left embarrassed this week when two of its parties could not even obtain enough votes to be on the ballot box.

The two obscure parties, Spectrum National Party and the Unemployed Peoples’ Movement, failed to garner the requisite signatures to contest the polls.

While this is embarrassing, at least they saved the money that would have been lost on registering.

The DA recently released a controversial election ad in which the national flag is consumed by flames. Many took to social media to criticise the party, with former Public Protector Thuli Madonsela expressing disappointment, saying the DA could have used other ways to send its message. Do you think the DA took it too far with this ad?
