Within this context, company executives did not consider geopolitics to be within their remit, in any deeper way. Instead, they would immerse themselves in the corporate acumen and lingua franca. Politics, and its associated economic and monetary policies, were largely left to the competence of politicians and government.

This environment provided a much-desired opportunity for company executives to focus solely on profit and loss and realising their commercial aspirations, which in itself was a monumental task.
