Cape Town - Cabinet has approved the appointment of an interim board for the Passengers Rail Agency of South Africa (Prasa), new Communications Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi announced on Thursday.
Advocate Tintswalo Annah Nana Makhubele was appointed chairperson, while Dr Natalie Skeepers, Professor John Maluleke and Magdelene Reddy were appointed board members, she said.
In July, outgoing Prasa chairperson Popo Molefe lashed out at Transport Minister Joe Maswanganyi, accusing him of prejudicing the board’s investigation following former Public Protector Thuli Madonsela’s Derailed report.
“The departing board does not believe that the minister has Prasa's best interests, and the interests of the public, at heart,” Molefe said in a statement.
“The process of appointing the board is not yet complete,” she said. “The transport minister wanted to ensure there is an interim board so work can happen.
“He has three to six months and then he is expected to bring a submission to Cabinet for a full appointment.”
