Rietfontein, located on the Oorlogspoort River just outside Colesberg, is on the market for R50m and has local and international buyers beaming with interest.
"My wife and I are in our eighties. When I retire, we want to go to our Plettenberg Bay house to be with our family," Player told Fin24.
He shared with us what he loves most about his Karoo home which he refers to as 'Heaven on Earth'.
"The house on the farm is spacious and comfortable, with many wonderful rooms."
It has a big kitchen, sun room, lounge, study, a basement wine cellar and a luxurious gym.
"We can accommodate twenty guests with ease," said Player, who went on to highlight the perfect entertainment setup.
"With the swimming pools, bomas, steps up the mountain, tennis court, a new addition of a natural rock pool on the koppie and picnic table in the wetlands for bird watching, it is the perfect setup for entertainment. The massive horse barn with piped music is also perfect for parties."
The farm has 7 boreholes and boasts exceptionally pure water, added the man considered one of the greatest players in the history of golf.
"We have the best water in the country," he said proudly. "We are fortunate not to have to put up with pollution in this area."
Champion racehorses have been bred and raised on Player's farm since 1883. He is the first South African breeder ever to produce an international Group 1 winner in the USA out of a South African mare called Serena.
The farm is regarded as the most fertile source of lucerne (alfalfa hay), with over 120 hectares of irrigated mixed pasture rich in the trace elements and calcium required to nurture strong-boned and resilient equine athletes.
It also has its own fenced game reserve with a range of indigenous animals including springbok, blesbok, mountain reed buck and white tailed wildebeest.
"The game reserve will stay as it is and ten broodmares will be included in the deal," said Player.
He added that a fair amount of the equipment and majority of furniture will remain in the house, which is listed for sale by Chas Everitt International.
"The response has been phenomenal already, with both local and international buyers expressing interest in viewing the property," Rory O’Hagan, CEO of the Chas Everitt International Luxury Portfolio division, told Fin24.
