Johannesburg - Chinese manufacturer Huawei's flagship P10 are pulling in the crowds in Gauteng.
During the first month of sales, the P10 and P10 Plus have seen a 68% increase in sales, compared to that of the P9, which was released into the country last year. Huawei said the devices seem to be most popular in Gauteng, with more units sold in the province.
South Africa has seen numerous notable smartphone launches since the beginning of the year, with stiff competition among top manufacturers in the premium segment. Sales stats show that Huawei has managed to maintain a steady increase within sales of the “P” series devices, despite powerful smartphone releases from rivals.
South Africa saw a 13.6% decline in smartphone shipments in South Africa for the first quarter of 2017, according to the latest figures released by the International Data Corporation (IDC). Yet Huawei managed to record an improvement in the sales of its flagship P-series devices.

“We have seen four times the increase in performance of our P10 as compared to the same period last year with the P9. We feel this is due to increasing consumer confidence in the Huawei brand and premium product segment,” said Zhao Likun, general manager of Huawei consumer business group in South Africa.
Huawei P9 and P9 Plus global shipments exceeded 10 million units, making them the first Huawei flagship handsets to break 10 million sales.
Its P10 and P10 Plus sells at a lower cost when compared to rival devices like Samsung’s S8 and S8+, and LG’s G6.
The Huawei P10 and Huawei P10 Plus are available from all operator channels at a price of R12 999 for the P10 and R13 999 for the P10 Plus.
