Cape Town – Local internet startup EventRoom is planning an expansion to Nigeria after its first year of operation.
“We recently had a request to partner with a Nigerian company and take EventRoom into Africa, which has always been a goal of ours and we are excited about capturing the Nigerian market,” chief executive Moira Johnston told Fin24.
Johnston, a qualified attorney, established EventRoom after establishing the LawyerUp attorney marketplace.
Meanwhile, Johannesburg is the favourite destination for the online venue booking service.
“Price-points vary considerably since we cater to such a large variety of events, but we probably see the largest number of searches for venues between R15 000 to R25 000,” said Johnston.
She added that Cape Town’s winelands are most popular for weddings, with parties ranging from 20 to 100 people.
EventRoom’s website allows searching by city, venue, budget or number of guests to plan events and the firm recently partnered with Red Carpet Concepts to offer patrons event planning services.
“Warehouses are an increasingly popular choice for events and we are seeking to greatly increase our stock of warehouse venues through some key partnerships in the future. These venues are highly versatile, underutilised and in most cases provide event planners ‘blank space’ that can be transformed according to their clients desires,” Johnston said.
The startup also offers South Africans the opportunity to earn extra cash by listing their homes as event spaces.
