Why victims of drunk texting can take heart

Cape Town – Whether it’s your ex or crush, or accidentally sending a juicy text to your mom or dad, WhatsApp has made this mistake more probable, especially in light of the growing use of groups on the service.

If you’re one of those people who think of their ex or you're brave enough to break the silence with your crush after you’ve had a glass too many of red wine; I’m sure you can relate to this.

The problem is that once the wine has washed over, the embarrassment sets in and you wish the earth could just swallow you in.

But if you’ve been a victim of "drunken texting", take heart! WhatsApp is testing a range of new features, including a function to revoke messages sent to other users.

I’ve experienced "drunken texting" recently when my varsity sweetheart hunted me down (via social media) and sent me a friend request on Facebook and followed me on Twitter.

I gladly followed back and we 'DM'd' (direct messaging on Twitter) each other right away, voila! I must have been flattered by the effort he took to find me, though it wasn’t much of an effort since he only had to type my name on his search browser.

What's strange is that our relationship didn't really blossom into something serious since I quickly learnt we wanted different things. When it ended, there was no strong bond that was created, it was fairly easy to move on. His 'hunt' for me must have caught me when I was most vulnerable and starved of attention since I live far away from my family.

Well, I drink wine occasionally and have since learnt that wine is not really my friend. I have stopped buying wine and I only drink it at functions and when I go out with a girlfriend. This is because I get seriously tipsy from one glass. Call me a wimp, it's cool!
