The solar PV tax reprieve for households might have fallen away at the end of February this year, but load shedding remains a driver of rooftop installations, says Absa's chief strategy and sustainability officer, Punki Modise.
The incentive for households allowed 25% in tax deductions on the cost of solar panels only for a year, and Treasury officials have said it was always meant to be a temporary incentive.
It's still early days, but the bank says it hasn't experienced a significant decline in demand for the financing solar rooftop installations after the incentive was removed. Generally, there are marginal declines in demand during periods of milder load shedding.
