Pharmacy retail giant Clicks says it is essential that SA shift to renewable energy in order to secure its electricity supply, with the costs of relying on cheap domestic coal already evident.
Speaking after the release of interim results, CEO Bertina Engelbrecht said the effects of climate change were already being seen in SA, with the 2022 flooding in KwaZulu-Natal and severe drought conditions in the Western Cape some years ago, which saw Cape Town almost run out of water.
The current state of affairs also eroded confidence in SA as an investment destination, she said.
