Auditor-General (AG) Tsakani Maluleke has warned that attempts by a suspended colleague to intimidate and "blackmail" her are a threat to the reputation and stability of the key institution. And while she has been vindicated by an independent report, the allegations against her could still prove damaging.
Maluleke briefed Parliament's Standing Committee on the Auditor-General (SCOAG) on Friday. This after a legal opinion by Advocate Werner Krull, on instruction of the firm Bowmans, cleared her of wrongdoing. The report also advised that her accuser be investigated for possible disciplinary action, News24 previously reported.
Maluleke's handling of the allegations has been praised by analysts, with one remarking that her "courage" in the face of intimidation put her on par with leaders of Chapter 9 institutions such as former Public Protector Thuli Madonsela.
