E-tolls will officially start being scrapped next month, after a decade of controversy that created little more than a huge pile of debt for authorities, and widespread animosity among Gauteng motorists.
The segments of Gauteng road where e-tolls have been operating will be stripped of their status as continuous toll roads with electronic toll points.
This was officially declared in a Government Gazette published on Thursday morning, which was signed by the Transport Minister Sindisiwe Chikunga.
