Electricity Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa says Eskom has proposed to increase its power procurement from private companies from 1 000MW to 4 000MW as it continues to battle power cuts.
In 2022, the power utility approached the market through a Standard Offer Programme to procure excess power from existing Independent Power Producers (IPPs) and large industrial companies, including paper manufacturer Sappi and energy/chemical company Sasol.
