Former Eskom CEO Matshela Koko told the Judicial Commission of Inquiry into State Capture that the characterisation of him as the brains behind deals that led to consulting firm McKinsey and Gupta-linked Trillian receiving a contract to the value of R1.6 billion in 2016 was false.
With Eskom continuing to battle with financial, governance and operational challenges to this day, the loss of funds through contracts that were found to be irregular played no small part in the quandary that the power utility now finds itself in.
