In this week's episode of Fin24's SA Money Report, we try to split the atom and create fission in our attempt to understand why the topic of nuclear power is back on South Africa's energy menu.
Nuclear - the very name alone conjures images of the Manhattan Project, mushroom clouds, the Chernobyl exclusion zone, Fukushima, Three-Mile-Island, and in SA’s case – corruption.
After mostly dropping off our collective Geiger counters in 2017, it seems like nuclear is back, and this time, it could stay, with those in favour saying it's actually really efficient and should be part of our future.
Helping us to understand the circumstances of its return, the ensuing debates and the implications, is Fin24’s investigative reporter Jan Cronje.
Fin24's aim with this new, weekly series is to take complex issues and break them down in way that gives listeners an insight into a world that can often be impenetrable, either because of really dense figures, ratios and percentages - or because you need to navigate obscure financial terminology.
New episodes of the show, hosted by Fin24 deputy editor Ahmed Areff, will be released every Friday.
