  • Kate Middleton has come under scrutiny again for a photo-editing controversy involving a family portrait featuring Queen Elizabeth.
  • The photo agency, Getty Images, announced on Monday that the portrait had been manipulated.
  • On the Getty website, the description for the image has a section that state: "EDITOR'S NOTE: Image has been digitally enhanced at source."

Hot on the heels of the photo-editing controversy that caused a furore among the British public and international media, Kate Middleton has again been scrutinised for image manipulation.

This time a family portrait of Queen Elizabeth with her grandchildren, purportedly taken by the Princess of Wales, has been called into question. The portrait was released in April 2023 to mark what would have been Queen Elizabeth's 97th birthday.

The photo was supplied by Kensington Palace, which claimed it had been taken at Balmoral Castle during 2022 in Aberdeen, Scotland.

But the photo agency, Getty Images, announced on Monday that the portrait had been manipulated, according to People.

On the Getty Images website, the description for the picture has a section that states: "EDITOR'S NOTE: Image has been digitally enhanced at source."

"Getty Images has reviewed the image in question and placed an editor's note on it, stating that the image has been digitally enhanced at source," a spokesperson for the media company told The Telegraph.

In the image, the queen sits with Lady Louise Mountbatten-Windsor, James - Earl of Wessex, Lena Tindall, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, Isla Phillips, Prince Louis, Mia Tindall, Lucas Tindall and Savannah Phillips.

The Telegraph noted several inconsistencies in the portrait, including dark patches which have seemingly been added and small "cuts" on the image.

Earlier this month, Kensington Palace released the first official photo of Princess Kate nearly two months after her abdominal surgery. The image was also scrutinised by various official photo and news agencies.

Soon agencies started removing the image from their services, saying it was found to have been manipulated.
