Learners from schools across the Overstrand had great fun, singing and clapping, while learning about the importance of saving water and the effects of global warming.
Story Team, a local theatre company based in Hermanus, reached nearly 1 800 Grade 4 and 5 learners when they performed their play titled ‘Hot like a red spot/warm soos ’n rooi alarm’ from 15 to 26 April at various schools.
Through this informative play, created by Celesté Loriston of Story Team, the learners of Laerskool Gansbaai, Okkie Smuts Primary, Mount Pleasant Primary, Waldorf School, Hermanus Primary, Lukhanyo Primary, Masakhane Primary, Hawston Primary and Laerskool Kleinmond learnt important lessons about how choices they make might have a negative impact on global warming and the environment.
The theatre production is part of Overstrand Municipality’s awareness drive to encourage and teach primary school learners the importance of every drop of water and why they should take care of the water resources we have.
The message for the Story Team characters was clear: Build and create warriors for the future conservation of the earth.
The municipality is of the opinion that even though the children have heard similar messages before, interactive play helps with learning and can be used successfully to reinforce that message and, hopefully, this will stay with them for life.
