Nomakhosazana Meth, the MEC for the Eastern Cape Department of Health, was shocked to learn about the killing of a security guard and the robbery at Maqanyeni Clinic in Ngqeleni on the night of Friday, April 26.

It is alleged that the robbers shot and killed him and stole five computers from the clinic.

Her spokesperson, Mkhululi Ndamase, confirmed that the deceased was with his female colleague, who was also left traumatised by the incident.

Meth condemned this incident stating that they had learnt with shock the killing of the security guard at the hands of vicious criminals with no regard for human life.

“We send our deepest condolences to his family, colleagues and friends.

"May his soul rest in peace. We are calling on the police to leave no stone unturned in their efforts to bring these criminals to book," said Meth.

"Communities should also work with authorities to ensure that the people behind this heinous crime are arrested. When our facilities and healthcare workers are attacked, it is the calling on communities to protect our staff, including security guards at our facilities."

She added that the Department of Health also provided counselling services to traumatised staff.

She delegated acting head of department, Miyakazi Nokwe to visit the family of the slain security guard and his colleague who was also on duty with him on the night of the incident.

Nokwe and a team of senior departmental officials visited the two families, last week.
