Two die, three sustain injuries during head-on collision near Butterworth

Two people have lost their lives while three others sustained injuries in a head-on collision on the N2 road between Butterworth and Dutywa at Tanga location during the early hours of this morning, December 2.

Provincial traffic spokesperson, Unathi Binqose said that the incident occurred in the early hours of this morning at about 03:00.

"A Toyota Corolla with four occupants from the Idutywa direction, collided with an Isuzu mini truck with two men from the Butterworth direction," said Binqose.

"Two passengers, a man and woman, both adults from the Corolla - died on the scene, while two others including the driver, along with one occupant from the truck were all taken to Butterworth Provincial Hospital for treatment."

The accident occurred at 03:00 on December 2.

Binqose said the other occupant of the truck - a passenger escaped with minor injuries and was treated on the scene.

"It is alleged that speeding and fatigue were the major contributing factors to this crash," said Binqose.

He said a case of culpable homicide has been opened at Msobomvu Saps for further investigations.
