Johannesburg's multimillion-rand intelligence operation centre was supposed to house the latest safety and security technology, but it became an expensive failure.

The failure of a multimillion-rand project to enhance security in the City of Johannesburg (COJ) compromised the safety of residents, rendering almost a quarter of the City's security camera network dysfunctional while more than R67 million allegedly irregularly left City coffers.

According to documents seen by News24, while the security project depended on CCTV, only 109 cameras out of 492 were online in 2020.
