The deeply troubled ANC-run Msunduzi Municipality appears to be backtracking on its controversial decision to ignore its own policies, which led it to sponsor struggling PSL outfit Royal AM to the tune of R27 million.
Royal AM is owned by "billionaire" Shawn Mpisane, but that didn't stop the embattled Pietermaritzburg-based municipality, where service delivery is already on its knees, from awarding the club cash for three years.
But the local government authority has now issued a cost-containing measure to curb spending, while it appears to be backtracking on its own controversial decision to sponsor clubs.
