For the first time in years, there are no new incidents of unauthorised expenditure at the troubled Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS), which is turning the tide against corruption stemming from former minister Nomvula Mokonyane's reign.
With Minister Senzo Mchunu at its helm, DWS is implementing a turnaround and financial recovery plan to stabilise the department.
Companies accused of having benefitted illegally are paying back millions after receiving irregular tenders. Nearly R600 million has been repaid from two problematic contracts.
