As climate change causes more frequent and severe weather events, a unique conservation centre will give endangered turtles a fighting chance when they wash up on Western Cape beaches.

The multimillion-rand Turtle Conservation Centre is being planned by the Two Oceans Aquarium and V&A Waterfront, which will increase the capacity of the aquarium's turtle rehabilitation facility.

The announcement comes on the back of an unprecedented influx of turtle hatchlings. Most of them washed up on Western Cape beaches due to severe weather in the province.
