A trail of destruction was left in the wake of a colossal storm that swept through parts of the Western Cape.

Communities are grappling with the aftermath of the heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and relentless winds which left hundreds of people homeless, as well as uprooted trees, devastating fires and power outages in several areas.

On Monday, residents in affected areas started doing their own repairs after strong winds blew the roofs off their homes.
