In an effort to achieve digital inclusion for township and rural communities in South Africa, various stakeholders have joined forces with internet service providers (ISPs) to offer affordable wifi, to foster internet accessibility to these underserved communities.
Some of the notable ISPs in South African townships include Fibertime, TooMuchWiFi, FrogFoot, Lokshin WiFi, Ikeja and Zenzele.
Tech analyst and editor at iAfrica, Bataung Qhotsokoane, told News24 that South Africa had indeed seen a rise in township internet accessibility, particularly with the pandemic having forced pupils and employees to operate remotely.
