  • Proteas spinner Imran Tahir took a hat-trick for the Birmingham Phoenix against the Welsh Fire in The Hundred in the United Kingdom on Monday.
  • The leg-spinner nipped out Qais Ahmad (1), Matt Milnes (0) and David Payne (0) in consecutive balls to secure a big win for his team.
  • Tahir ended up with match figures of 5/25.

Ageless Proteas spinner Imran Tahir provided a timely reminder of why he remains a sought-after T20 spinner after taking a hat-trick in The Hundred competition at Edgbaston on Monday.

Playing for the Birmingham Phoenix, who crushed the Welsh Fire by 93 runs after posting 184/5, the 42-year-old Tahir not only took a five-wicket haul (5/25), he nipped out Qais Ahmad (1), Matt Milnes (0) and David Payne (0) to secure the hat-trick. Tahir, who retired from ODI cricket after the 2019 World Cup, remains available for T20 cricket contention.

However, Tabraiz Shamsi's magical ascension to the top of the T20 bowling rankings with his special brand of left-arm wrist-spin has meant Tahir hasn't been picked by South Africa.
