Home Affairs Minister Malusi Gigaba has reacted to the leaking of the Eskom Inquiry's draft preliminary report, in which he has been reportedly implicated.
Business Day on Monday named the minister and former Public Enterprise Minister Lynne Brown among those who may be criminally investigated.
To this, Gigaba, on Twitter, called for the speaker of Parliament to intervene. "We expect the Speaker to act to restore the dignity and integrity of Parliament. Our Parliament is not a Kangaroo Court which leaks incomplete reports, which may still change, to assassinate the characters of those who appear before it," he said.
Gigaba told News24 on the sidelines of an event at the Lindelani Repatriation Centre in Krugersdorp that he had not had the opportunity to see the report or respond to it. He said he would consult with the ANC and his lawyers on the matter.
Gigaba shared similar views on the leaking in an interview with eNCA. "All this is done to perpetuate a narrative not backed up by facts, so you continue to perpetuate this narrative to paint a person with a brush of wrongdoing and misdeeds. By the time a person responds to allegations, they have already been splashed out in media," he said.
Earlier chairperson of the inquiry Zukiswa Rantho told Fin24 that she does not know who leaked the report and called the act "scandalous" and "embarrassing". The committee still has to adopt the report and give those implicated 14 days to respond.
