No power cuts planned for Sunday, says Eskom
Eskom says it is not planning to implement rotational load shedding on Sunday.
But the power utility warned that the country's generation system remains constrained and vulnerable, and it may be forced to implement cuts at short notice should its system performance deteriorate.
On Saturday afternoon it was utilising emergency generation reserves to supplement supply.
Unplanned breakdowns or outages were at 11 663MW on Saturday afternoon - roughly a quarter of the utility's total nominal capacity. Planned maintenance outages, meanwhile, were at 5 709MW.
The cash-strapped utility has warned of an increased likelihood of power cuts over the next 17 months as it conducts maintenance on its fleet of ageing power plants.
