CCMA will have enough funds to manage more complaints – labour minister

Allocations from National Treasury will be enough for the Commission for Conciliation Mediation and Arbitration to manage a 15% increase in complaints, Labour Minister Mildred Oliphant said.

The minister was responding in a written reply to a question from DA MP Michael Bagraim about whether the shortfall in funding of the CCMA last year had been addressed.

Oliphant said given the 15% increase in cases, the labour department had approached Treasury for additional funding.

For the next three years, the CCMA received a budget increase of R93m, she said.

For the 2019/20 fiscal year the CCMA will receive R25m, with R33m and R35m in subsequent years.

"This increase will capacitate it to deal with its challenges," she said.
