Power cuts to continue on Sunday - Eskom
Eskom says it will continue to implement stage 2 load shedding on Sunday due to a shortage of generation capacity.
The utility says it will use the weekend to supplement its emergency reserves of water and diesel. It will provide an update on Sunday afternoon about the week ahead, but has warned of a "likelihood of load shedding".
"Our teams are working hard to reduce unplanned outages or breakdowns, which were at 10 852MW as at 16:50 on [Saturday]," said Eskom in a statement. "Critical maintenance continues to be conducted on units that are currently on planned outages."
"Customers are advised that any additional shifts on the system may require a change in the load shedding stage. We therefore request customers to use electricity sparingly and to reduce demand during this period."
The utility has previously said that there is an increased possibility of load shedding over the next 18 months as the utility conducts critical maintenance to restore its ageing plants.
