Inflation eases to 4.6%

Johannesburg – November inflation has eased to 4.6%, according to data from Statistics South Africa.

This rate is 0.2 of a percentage point lower than the corresponding annual rate of 4.8% in October. The consumer price index increased by 0.1% month-on-month (m/m) in November 2017.

On average prices increased 0.1%  from October.

Transport decreased from 0.8 of a percentage point in October to 0.6 of a percentage point in November. The
index increased by 4.4% year-on-year (y/y).

Food and non-alcoholic beverages contributed 0.1 of a percentage point in November. The index increased by
0.4% m/m.

Transport contributed 0.1 of a percentage point in November. The index increased by 0.5% m/m.

In November the CPI for goods increased by 3.7% y/y (down from 4.1% in October), and the CPI for
services increased by 5.5% y/y, unchanged from October.

Provincial annual inflation rates ranged from 3.3% in North West to 6.0% in Western Cape.
