First editor of Business Insider SA appointed

Cape Town - Helena Wasserman has been appointed as the inaugural editor of Business Insider South Africa.

Media24 said in a statement on Friday that Wasserman is a seasoned financial journalist and editor with more than 20 years’ experience on some of the SA’s leading business titles, including Finweek, Fin24 and Sake24.

Business Insider, is described as an innovative digital news brand aimed at the global business community. Media24 announced the launch of Business Insider SA in December 2017.

Launched in 2007, Business Insider is the largest business news site in the US and one of the fastest-growing news brands in the world. Collectively, the Business Insider network of sites reaches over 120 million unique monthly visitors across all platforms, per Google Analytics.

The company pioneered a digital-native approach to business news that is social and mobile at its core and which is aimed at the next generation of business leaders.

“Helena is the perfect person to launch this exciting new title in our business portfolio,” said Andreij Horn, CEO of 24.com.

“She has the gravitas, flair and business acumen to launch the local version of this hugely successful international business brand in a society hungry for stories of business innovation, inspiration and prosperity.”

Wasserman said as an avid reader of Business Insider for many years, she is honoured to be involved in its launch in SA.

"Our team is looking forward to showcase the most exciting new developments in SA business and finance. Our aim is to empower the country’s next generation of executives with all the information they need, minus the boring bits,” she said.

Phillip de Wet has been appointed as associate editor. He is currently associate editor of Mail & Guardian, an award-winning journalist and described as being able to do a sharp analysis of current affairs.

Wasserman and De Wet will lead a strong team of journalists who will cover business innovation, technology, executive lifestyle and the personalities behind SA’s great companies and brands for a tech-savvy generation. Business Insider SA launches in February.
