South Africa is one of the more than 60 countries that will be going to the polls this year, However, a review of the manifestos of some key political parties reveals a less encouraging picture when it comes to commitments to address the climate crisis, writes Enock Sithole.
As some 67 countries around the world are holding elections in 2024, measures to address climate change could be sacrificed in efforts to woo voters with populist messages.
The polls will see more than 50% of the world's population taking part in elections for new administrations. This may have implications for some policies, including those aimed at tackling the climate crisis.
