For a sector that has largely escaped the worst impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, telecommunications companies in the year ahead look set to unleash strategies aimed at diversifying revenue streams and entrench market control as competition heats up for domestic and international dominance.

The pandemic-ridden months since March 2020 have handed companies bumper profits, thanks to increased internet demand during the lockdown. It remains to be seen whether these companies will be able to maintain the inflated earnings of the past 20 months. 

Analyst believe that companies would explore further value unlocking strategies in order to optimise their balance sheets and fight to attract and retain customers through innovative data-driven services, amid the increasing appetite for new-generation technologies such as 5G.
