Iqbal Survé’s Sekunjalo group of companies will turn to the Constitutional Court after the Supreme Court of Appeal found in favour of Nedbank, which had tried to close the group's banking accounts.
Last year, the Equality Court granted the Sekunjalo Group and its 44 affiliated companies an interim interdict ordering the bank to keep all their accounts open and reopen shuttered facilities.
The bank started to close their accounts in April 2021, citing that it could suffer reputational harm by doing business with them following the findings of the Mpati Commission of Inquiry, which probed wrongdoing at the Public Investment Corporation (PIC).
