The Independent Communications Authority of SA (Icasa) has appointed its audit chief Tshiamo Maluleka-Disemelo as its new CEO with effect from 1 February.
Maluleka-Disemelo replaces Willington Ngwepe, whose five-year contract came to an end in October, with Ngwepe taking on the role of chief of staff at Africa's largest mobile operator, MTN.
Nkhetheleni Gidi, who has served as interim CEO, will resume his role as Executive: Policy, Research and Analysis.
Maluleka-Disemelo has held the position of chief audit executive since 2020, and holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Milpark Business School.
"She brings nearly two decades of governance, audit, and risk management experience, as well as advanced skills in spearheading executive efforts," acting Icasa chair Charley Lewis said in a statement. In her position as audit chief, she had worked with the council to develop, among other things, Icasa’s strategic plan, annual and operational performance plans, policies and procedures for managing organisational risks.
"We congratulate the incoming CEO on her appointment and wish her everything of the best in the new role," said Lewis.
"Both council and management commit to supporting and working with her in fulfilling the Authority's mandate to regulate the telecommunications, postal and broadcasting sectors in the public interest”, he said.
