Three of South Africa's most prominent banks have denied allegations in a report by the Jerusalem Post, which SA’s chief rabbi then echoed, that they are providing a platform for funds to flow to a charity allegedly linked to Hamas.
The Jerusalem Post, one of Israel's largest English-language daily newspapers, reported last week that Standard Bank, Absa and Nedbank were allegedly providing funding platforms for funds to flow to the Al-Quds Foundation.
The post cited unnamed sources as saying that funds flowed from the South African chapter of the Al-Quds Foundation to the company's headquarters in Lebanon. The newspaper said that Hamas' leadership essentially runs the Lebanese branch of the group, citing sanctions imposed on it by the US Treasury over a decade ago.
