In a scathing takedown of an Equality Court judgement, the Supreme Court of Appeal has dismissed an order that Nedbank had to reopen the banking accounts of businessman Iqbal Survé’s Sekunjalo group of companies.
Last year, the Equality Court granted Survé, Sekunjalo and 44 affiliated companies an interim interdict, ordering the bank to keep all their accounts open and reopen shuttered facilities.
Nedbank was one of the few banks that still offered Sekunjalo some measure of banking services after others cut ties with the group.
