The Special Investigating Unit (SIU) has jumped in to block the sale of a multimillion-rand farm in Limpopo linked to former National Lotteries Commission (NLC) boss Phillemon Letwaba and his brother, Johannes, before it could be sold off.
Phillemon Letwaba resigned as the NLC's chief operating officer in August 2022 ahead of a disciplinary hearing. His pension payouts were blocked the following month. He has denied wrongdoing linked to his stint at the NLC.
The SIU's probe shows that the Letwaba brothers bought the 342-hectare farm near Modimolle, with funds initially granted to a nonprofit organisation to help Durban host the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
