The National Nuclear Regulator has approved Eskom's request to have separate operating timelines for Koeberg's Unit 1 and 2.

The power station will still have one licence, however. Eskom has applied for a licence from the regulator to continue operating Koeberg for another 20 years.

Each of Koeberg's units were commissioned on different dates. Koeberg Unit 1 was first commissioned in July 1984, and Unit 2 was commissioned in November 1985.
