As the National Nuclear Regulator (NNR) decision on the life extension of Koeberg Power Station drags on, it is clear that it will be at least another year before Koeberg is back to full strength.
Unit 1 has been out of commission for the past 11 months to replace steam generators as part of the long-term life extension. The loss of half of Koeberg – each unit is 920MW - to the grid is one reason for the record load shedding levels this year.
