Koeberg Unit 1 will now only be back online in November – five months later than planned.
Koeberg's licence to operate expires in a year's time, after which it must be shut down, unless the plant has been successfully refurbished and relicensed.
This involves the replacement of the three steam generators in both units. Each unit generates 920MW, almost equivalent to a stage of load shedding.
