The SA Revenue Service (SARS) recently advertised 370 new jobs, and tax experts are viewing the massive recruitment drive as a positive step towards rebuilding the institution.
Tax experts have previously called for SARS's capacity to be bolstered with skilled people to make tax collections more efficient instead of raising taxes. Finance Minister Tito Mboweni, during the tabling of the national budget this year, announced SARS would be allocated an additional R3 billion.
This would support efforts to modernise its technology infrastructure systems, as well as expand its use of data analysis.
