The JSE will collaborate with the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), one of the world’s largest bourses, on dual listings, exchange traded funds (ETFs) and digital assets as the two both look to expand their investment universes.
Market analysts welcomed a memorandum of understanding between the two, saying the agreement could see SA, through the JSE, becoming more involved in the shaping of global policy around cryptocurrencies and other new digital financial products. At the same time it would also keep the JSE up to date with the global best practice when it came to new technology.
Announcing the deal, the JSE said it in a statement the agreement with the NYSE would not only see the two bourses collaborate on dual listings on both exchanges, but also see them "jointly explore the development of new products and share knowledge around ESG [environmental, social and governance], ETFs and digital assets".
