As Minister of Public Enterprises Pravin Gordhan bows out of politics, it looks less likely than ever that the sale of 51% of SAA to Takatso will get over the line. Political support for the deal in the ANC caucus, and in the Cabinet, has evaporated, while Gordhan has begrudgingly parted with details over the transaction, writes Carol Paton.

It should have been Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan's crowning achievement, but there have been countless obstacles. And now, most detrimental, political support for the SAA transaction has dried up.
