What a time to be alive! There we were, buzzing (excuse the pun) with excitement as those in attendance at the inaugural Cape Town ePrix showed up in their numbers. And despite the fact that South Africa is in crisis - in more ways than one - for two days, all our troubles were forgotten. 

I am not a lover of big crowds and, especially after seeing near death with my bout of Covid pneumonia just 17 months ago, I have been particularly cautious, and this was probably the first time since the pandemic I had attended an event that made the world seem normal again - yes, there have been many others, but it was a first for me.

The crowds came out in numbers for the inaugural Cape Town ePrix - and that warmed my heart. People were excited about this historic event despite the irony of being hit by our new normal of Stage 6 load shedding at the time, and the event being sponsored by our failing energy supplier Eskom. In all honesty, it played too much on my mind - the sheer audacity of it all.
